Began and Ended March in Mississippi
Our field trip in March took us to southern Mississippi to a lime quarry comprised of marine rocks from the Oligocene. We had just a beautiful day with highs reaching into the low 60s, a breeze and bright sunshine. A fossil hunter could ask for nothing better! It's March - That Means Fossil Roadshow
On March 7, 2026 the APS made the day trip to Jackson, Mississippi for the 23rd annual Fossil Roadshow at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. The wintertime makes for quiet fossil collecting as well - what a joy! Here is just a sampling of the fossils from the various locales: Bra

White Gulleys of South Alabama
After spending October wading in a creek of South Alabama looking for Eocene shark teeth, we used our November field trip at one of our favorite sites where the chalk gullies are created through the Mooreville Chalk representing marine deposits of the late Cretaceous (early Campanian ~82 million years ago). The APS trips to this site always seem to result in some incredible finds worthy of ascension into the University of Alabama Museum Collections. This day was no different
